A couple of chances for snow showers will be possible across WNC as the day progresses through Friday and we move into Saturday. A surface low will bring moisture to the area later this evening where rain will likely be changing to snowfall. This could coat many high elevation locations above 3500’, and snow showers will even be possible North of I-40 in valley locations. Below you can see the progression of the most recent short range NAM.
How Much Snowfall Is Possible?
For lower elevation locations below 2500’ I wouldn’t expect much of any accumulation, possibly a dusting. For locations between 2500’-3500’ isolated locations could see up to 1” of snow. Above 3500’ though 2”-4” will easily be picked up, especially in favored locations along the NC/TN border. Check out the snowfall map below that the most recent NAM 3km produced.
Limited Precipitation Likely Over Next 6 Days
after this frontal passage moves through, it will be cold around WNC. In fact, many locations will not get out of the low 40’s all weekend. But warmer air is on the way, and we will finally dry out to a tad around WNC. Below you can see the temperature spread from the most recent European model. This shows you the likely projected high and low temperatures through the next 10 days. Notice also how the Euro indicates another frontal passage late next week. That will become my next topic of interest as the GFS has a wintery solution. Lots of details to be hammered out, but ill have all the latest information for you as it becomes available!
