A frontal passage today will bring scattered rain showers and very gusty winds to WNC today. Many of you have already experienced some rainfall this morning, and a few more scattered showers cannot be ruled out through the early afternoon hours… but the main story will be the winds that pick up this afternoon. Many models indicate that as this front pushes through, winds around Asheville could gust over 40mph! Wind gusts this high have the potential to down trees and cause power outages so please be mindful of this as we progress through the day. It would be wise to secure outdoor accessories such a patio furniture to ensure it is not damaged. Below you can see the most recent NAM 3km high wind gusts at 3pm this afternoon. As you can see, it registers a potential gust of 49mph at the Asheville Airport during the hours of 2pm-3pm. That would be a very strong gust of wind, that could potentially do damage.
Beautiful Weekend Ahead
After these winds finally reside early Saturday AM, a somewhat beautiful weekend will follow! A few scattered showers cannot be ruled out Saturday PM, but all and all I expect plenty of sunshine to make it way through some scattered clouds both Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will also be in the low 70’s so it will feel nice! Have a great weekend!
