Thunderstorms Likely This Afternoon For WNC, Then Mild Weekend Ahead
One more round of rainfall and storms will be likely this afternoon as a finally lobe of this Upper Level Low moves through. Thunder, lightning, and even small hail cannot be ruled out with these storms.. so please be mindful. Not all locations will see heavy rain as these storms move through, and locations in Henderson & Transylvania Counties stand the best chance to see additional flooding. Below you can see the most recent HRRR and how it projects precipitation to move through over the next 36 hours.
Weekend Weather
While there is a chance for some shower activity on both Saturday and Sunday around WNC, the chance will be limited compared to the past several days. In fact many areas could effectively dry out by Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will be very nice this weekend around Asheville with highs only in the upper 70’s or low 80’s each day. Below you can see the projected high temperatures Saturday afternoon per the Nam 3km.
Spring Pattern Ahead, Mild Memorial Day In Store
It appears as though we are finally going to get into a Spring-like pattern here in the mountains of WNC. Overall the next 10 days do not look like a scorcher, but with the gulf opening up shower activity will be very likely. Below you can see the projected temperatures for the next 10 days per the most recent Nam 3km. As you can see this model doesn’t see the 80’s being very likely over the next 10 days. Although short range models do suggest we will get into the 80’s on Saturday and Sunday. The main takeaway is that a significant warm up does not look to be in store!
Pop-Up Storm Chances Increase Next Week
Early next week moisture will begin to push into the area from the Gulf. This will raise dew points around the area and afternoon sun will pop-up storms each day. When and where these storms pop-up is usually uncertain until they develop, but just be aware that the chance will be there all next week. Most models do not show a significant amount of rainfall occurring in one specific area, but if you happen to get under a heavy downpour… a quick inch of rainfall cannot be rule out. All and all this next week appears pleasant around WNC and it will be good gardening weather so get out and enjoy it!
