Dangerous Travel Day Across NC Today As Moderate Risk For Severe Storms Issued
The Severe Prediction Center has elevated many parts of NC today to a moderate risk for severe storms. This means that within a give location under the moderate risk, there is a 45% chance of damaging wind gusts within 30 miles. A 10% tornado risk has also been issued for the moderate risk area. The storm risk looks less severe for WNC, but it is not zero. In fact, many locations are under a slight risk for the chance that strong storms will redevelop this afternoon over WNC. Damaging wind gusts, hail, lightning, are possible and a small chance for a tornado exists with this line that develops this afternoon, so please be weather aware.
Flash Flooding Concerns Around WNC
There is an increased chance for flash flooding around WNC as ample amount of rainfall push into the area. These storms are rotating around an upper level low and as the low cuts itself off and stalls, so will the progression of the front. Therefore, multiple rounds of rainfall will be possible today around WNC, and flash flooding is very likely. Please use caution when traveling around WNC today.
