Heavy Rain Likely Saturday Around WNC, Over 1" Possible
Rainfall will push back into the area as a low pressure moves through the southeast on Friday night and into Saturday. Several models indicate that over 1” of rainfall could be possible from this system, and that is much needed since most areas hasen’t seen more than an inch of rainfall this entire month! Below you can see the most recent GFS model run through Sunday am. As you can see the SW portion of WNC is expected to see the highest totals due to the southwest flow, but areas even around Asheville could easily see over 1” of rainfall.

When Will Rain Begin?
Looking at the simulated radar below from the 3km NAM, rain showers appear likely around lunch time on Friday around WNC. These scattered showers will continue through the evening, ahead of the front. Then rainfall will pick up around 6am on Saturday morning as stronger lift moves in. Totals over 1” of rainfall are likely around Asheville, and totals over 2” could be possible around locations like Franklin & Highlands, NC.

Yes, you should take your umbrella if you plan to attend because rainfall will be likely on Saturday morning unfortunately. As you can see in the simulated radar, precipitation is expecting to pick up as the parade begin to get going. Several rounds of rainfall will be possible on Saturday, so its possible that a lull could occur for some period during the parade.. but at this moment its a little difficult to nail down those exact details.

I am watching for the chance of rainfall around WNC next week around Thursday or Friday. Most models indicate that a frontal passage will occur late next week and that could bring precipitation to many across the Southeast. Seven days out though this can certainly change, but as of now, it appears that some form of low pressure will be coming together across the Southeast late next week.
